Fence Post Snowmen

My friend Tiff (I blog with her over at the Undone Blog) had a super cute Idea to make some wood snowmen like THESE. So we decided to make a craft day out of it and got together with our other Undone sisa Hailey and make them. Tiff had some old 4X4 fence posts so her awesome dad cut them for us to make these bad boys. Free material woop! I was super excited and couldn't wait to get started.Tiff got hers done that day and me and Hailey took ours home to finish them. To see how they each turned out different and cute go the THIS post. And today I am going to show you how I made mine.

Supplies Needed

-one long piece of 4X4 wood post (you can get this at home depot and they will cut it for you too or you can just use an old fence post like we did)
-White craft paint
-Pearl Medium paint
-Sponge paint brush
-buttons
-Orange vinyl, triangle wood piece or a wood star from your craft star for the noses
-3 socks (different colors and patterns)- I got mine at target they had really cute patterns I have even seen some cute ones at the dollar store
-1/2 yard of flannel total (whatever colors or patterns you choose)
-Hot glue or tacky glue
-little clear rubber bands

How to Make them:

1. First you are going to cut your wood into 3 different sizes. The lengths we did were
Big: 30 inches
Medium: 26 inches
Small: 20 inches

2. Then you will paint your wood. I painted it white but I did a dry brush technique meaning I just brushed it on leaving it rough and not covering it all so it looked more worn you can also sand it down to make it look worn, but this eliminated the sanding step and it looked the same
Then I painted over the white with a little bit of pearl paint medium to give it a little bit of a shimmer look in the light

3. Once your paint is dry you can start accessorizing and making the snowman face first I made the hats they were so easy and super cute in the end. 1. Put your sock on the top of the piece of wood 2. Scrunch the top of the sock so it looks like the picture above 3. Get your little clear rubber band 4. Tie your rubber band around the scrunched sock and now it looks like a cute little beanie with a pom pom on top. Repeat these steps on the other two snowmen with your other socks

4. I picked yellow and a light blue for the flannel for the snowmen scarves 1/4 yard of each

5. Cut your fabric long ways in half so you have an 1/8 of a yard I felt like that was the perfect thickness for these little guys scarves

6. Then you will tie your scarves onto your snowmen I tied each one of my scarves a little different and you will then trim the fabric to the length you think looks best on the size of the snowmen you are working with

7. Now it is time to put the face together you will need your buttons and your vinyl, triangle wood pieces or wood star

8. I used a wood star for the noses it was so easy and super cheap. I bought this at Michaels for like 40 cents and it was already painted orange. It was super thin wood so I was just able to snap the points off to make a triangle for the carrot nose. Then I sanded it down a little

9. Glue your buttons on for the eyes and the triangles on for the nose and then I added 3 buttons down the front under the scarf to look like clothing buttons

And you are done. Super cute Right?!

Group them together and they are a cute little snowman family. In fact I think I might make one more so it can be our little family of four as snowmen I just need to add a little baby. I will add a picture to this post once I get that last little one done.

I am kinda in love with their cute little faces

I have mine up on my sofa table in the hall way along with some other wintery decor for the Christmas and winter seasons. And I love how I can keep these up past Christmas and through January. Don't you love the yellow and light blue?! I just need to add some snowflakes in the window and as the Christmas cards come in I will be stinking them to the edges of the windows with washi tape. These little guys would also be super cute on a front porch. But since I am in a basement apartment they are going inside for now :)

If you use my tutorial to make these little guys I would love to see
