Magnet Board Tutorial

Today i am going to show you a fun project and gift

I whipped up for my mom and mother in law 

for Mothers day this year!

Covering and beautifying a hanging magnet board

and vintage magnet accessories

Materials you will need:

-Magnet board (I got mine at Wood connection)

-Fabric you want to cover it with

-ribbon (any color coordinating with your fabric)

-scissors and rotary cutter

-Cutting Mat

-Iron

-Glue gun and Glue

-Magnets

-Buttons (I used old looking vintage buttons I had around)

-wire cutters

-E6000 glue

What I did:

1. First things first I laid the fabric face down 

on the cutting mat

and laid the magnet board face down on top of the fabric

2. Then I cut the fabric with a 1 inch allowance 

on each side of the square

3. Next I ironed out my fabric to make sure it was all pretty

and no wrinkles were left in it

4. I went back to my cutting mat and laid my fabric face down

with my magnet board on it then I folded the fabric over on each side of the square 

so it was folded over a 1/2 inch and the edge was now meeting up with the 

edge of the magnet board like the picture above

 5. As I folded the fabric over I ironed it down so it had a nice crisp seam

and so it stayed down

 6. Next it was time to glue the fabric down

I made a line of hot glue along each edge of the magnet board

 7. after there was a line of glue on the edge I folded the fabric over

and pushed it down so each edge was

glued down and the fabric was now all secured to the board

 8. Now it was time to get the ribbon through the holes 

(they were already drilled onto the magnet board that I bought)

first I took and exacto knife and just cut the fabric where the 

holes were on the board like so

 9. Thread your ribbon through the holes

 10. Tie into a bow 

Now there is something to hang it from and

it is cute!

And there is your covered magnet board with fabric

 11. This cute magnet board needed a little more sprucing up 

so I decided to make some cute magnets to go with it

12. I took my vintage buttons and my wire cutter to cut off the 

plastic loop on the back of the button

 13. Then I needed my handy dandy E6000 glue

 14. I took my magnet, put a dollop of glue on it 

and placed my button on top of that

 And now you have your pretty magnets to go with the board

This is perfect to put pictures, business cards, or notes up on it

 Completed!!!

What do you think?

I can proudly say both my mom and mother in law

loved them 

and now I can't wait to make one for myself

 Vintage buttons make the prettiest magnets 

and just completed this project

 One last look

Yup I love it!

Next I wrapped it up in some brown paper

added a pop of color with a cute simple tag and of course some 

bakers Twine (one of my favorite crafting supplies)

I had an amazing mothers Day!

It was full of being spoiled, amazing talks at church,

being with my little Maddux and Ty, feeling 

Holden moving around all day long, and seeing my mom and mother in law

and I couldn't help but think how lucky I am

to be a mom and how grateful I am for my little man

and the other little man in my tummy. 

I couldn't help but think of how grateful I 

am for my amazing mom and  everything she has done and taught me in my life. 

And I feel so blessed to have such an amazing 

mother in law that makes me feel like her own daughter

and raised the most amazing son 

that turned into an incredibly loving husband and father.
