Ruffle Burlap Wreath

I have been wanting to make a burlap wreath
I had so many ideas
and I decided to kind of use a little of each and make it my own
First I found a really cool way to do a wreath form
HERE but it needed a bit of adjusting

What You will need:

-Foam pipping (found in the plumbing department in Home Depot)
about $1
- Duct tape (Already had it)

**revised**
you will also need:
-some sort of bendable copper piping or a hanger will work
(free from Father in law's work)
-and ribbon (to tie on the hanger or pipe

What I did:

-Bend the pipe and duct tape the ends together
-Then work around it fluffing it and getting all the kinks out

**Revised**
-Sadly this did not work as well as I hoped
it would probably work better if you were doing a paper wreath or something very light
But once I hung it up it started bending
-so I took the copper pipe (you could also use a metal hanger)
and I bent it to fit the wreath
-I put it inside and tied it to the wreath with the ribbon
-Don't worry you can't even tell the copper or ribbon is there
it gets covered up by the burlap

I think it is a really good idea you just have to make sure
you have the right support behind it or do a lighter material on it
But this ended up working perfect for me and
only cost me $1
which is always nice :)

Now onto the fun wreath
I promise you are gonna love this one
It is fun and could be used for any season
depending on the color burlap you choose
I wanted this for end of summer
and maybe add a banner for fall

What you will need:

-Burlap (two different colors)
I used brown and tan
-Glue
-A glue gun
-or replace glue with pins
- Thread
-Scissors
-needle

What I did:

-First wrap the wreath form with burlap
-the take your copper pipe or hanger and attach it to the middle
with ribbon on the top, bottom, and two sides

-next you are going to cut strips to make into ruffles

- Cut the strips 45 inches length and about 2 inches wide

-Then you will cut the strip in half
so you get two out of each
-You want 13 half strips of each color
so 26 total if you are only doing one color

There are two different ways you can attach the ruffles
pin them in or glue them
which ever way you prefer
own it :) and don't be afraid

Pin it on Version

-take your burlap strip
-start folding over

-Keep folding and layering it over itself
(shown in the picture)
-while holding it together in the center as you go

-continue folding and layering until you form a half circle
-Then pin it to the wreath through the middle of the gathered burlap
-continuing to fold and pin each ruffle until you get all the way around

The Glue version
(this is the way I did it)
I like this better it is more permanent and I just feel like it stays better
through keeping it outside and through storage
and still keep its perfect form
This is for sure the way I would recommend

-take your burlap strip
-start folding it over itself

-Keep folding and layering it over itself
(shown in the picture)
while holding it together in the center as you go

-continue folding and layering until you form a half circle

-Then you are going to take your needle and thread and just do a few good stitches
back and forth securing it with a knot
-So it looks a little something like this

-Then get a big glob of hot glue on it and secure it to the wreath form

-continuing to fold, stitch and glue each ruffle until you get all the way around

-Make sure to over lap them all just a little bit
to get it a good ruffle look and covering the stitch of each ruffle

- then a tied a ribbon on the top to hang it up with

-and viola the perfect and easy ruffle wreath

I actually was able to do this pretty quick
It is much faster to fold and secure with a stitch rather
than stitching and pulling each ruffle
I promise this technique will save you some time

What do you think?
I LOVE IT

  13. Love the burlap. Copper isn't cheap here - infact the local metal recyler pays quite good money for electrical cables... might have to swap it for a hanger ;)

  21. LOVE this wreath!!!! I had already purchased some of the stuff that I would need for me to make a wreath. I just happened to come across your post while I was searching for examples. I had already gotten the pipe foam and tried to make a circle and failed. I added wadded up newspaper to the center. I had already purchased tan burlap, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of the brown and tan. Gonna head back to Hobby Lobby and get some of the brown. Thanks for the idea!!!!
