Circus Party Photo Booth Goodness {The Wood Connection & Giveaway}

***Disclosure: This is a sponsored post written by me on behave of The Wood Connection as always all the opinions are 100% my own

Today I am going to be sharing a really fun photo booth idea for a birthday party or backyard get together. It is August which around here means a Birthday is coming up and not just any birthday, but my baby's first birthday. How did that happen? How is he almost one already. I thought up a fun circus theme and got right to thinking what decor and fun things we could do at the party. I knew the wood connection would be just the place to get started. I found a whole bunch for decor items and photo booth goodness that is going to be perfect for his party just this last weekend. So lets see what I was able to come up with for a circus theme shall we...

{Supplies I Used}

{Banner}
-6 scalloped wood banner pieces- Wood connection
-Cream paint
-Scrapbook paper-Wood connection
-foam brushes
-mod podge
-wooden letters- Wood connection
-Hot glue gun and glue
-Sand paper
-Bakers Twine

{Elephants}
-Wooden Elephant pieces- Wood Connection
-Paint
-Sandpaper

{Frame}
-Frame- Wood connection
-Paint
-Sandpaper
-embellishments-vinyl polka dots

{Photo Booth Items}
-Wooden mustache, lips, glasses, hat, and dowels- Wood connection
-Paint
-Sand paper
-Hot glue and glue gun

{How I made it}

First, lets start with the banner. You are going to paint the edges of each piece you don't need to paint the top because it will be covered by paper, and you don't need to paint the back because no one will see the back.

Next, you will mod podge your paper on.

Make sure to let it dry completely and once it has sat for a couple hours then you can mod podge over the top of the paper. I like to do this so that the paper on the banners don't get ruined. The reason you wait to do the layer on top of the paper is because if it isn't dry, your paper will bubble.

Once your top layer is dry then you are going to take your sand paper and you are going to sand around the edges of the banner piece and this will sand off all the extra paper just leaving the part that is glued to the piece. This gives you the perfect fit, without all the tracing and cutting.

Now it is time to poke the holes through the paper. I used a little vinyl tool I have but you could just used a pin. Poke it through the hole in the wood through the paper moving the pin around to get the full circle into the paper.

Then you are going to string your twine through all the holes connecting the banner together. At each banner piece I tied a double knot to keep the banner all in place so each piece wasn't sliding around.

Now for the letters, I simply painted two coats of cream paint and sanded the edges.

Once the letters are dry I hot glued each one onto its wood banner piece and you are done with your adorable circus banner. This can be for the decor above the food table, or you can use it as part of the photo booth. Also after the party I am going to use this as decor in my little boys room, because lets face it it is always a circus with two little boys in the house.

After the banner I worked on all the photo booth pieces. I just painted each of them the color that I wanted, it took two coats to cover them completely and then I sanded down the edges. Next I glued the dowel in the pre-drilled hole that was at the bottom of each of the mustache, hat, lips and glasses. Isn't that so fun that they have these at the wood connection?! It was just what I wanted. What I like about these wood ones apposed to the paper photo booth props is that they last. After the party I am going to put these in the boys play room with all of their dress up stuff. How fun right!

They even have paper straws at the wood connection which is great for any party or dinner get together along with some crafting. You can see what else I have done with paper straws HERE and HERE. For the photo booth I simply attached some chalkboard vinyl, that I had cut into a cute shape, to the straw with some tape on the back. Also for the party I am going to use them for drinks. I added a washi tape flag that the guests can put their names on so they can keep track of their drink.

The elephants I simple painted, sanded and hot glued the ears on. I did them in some fun circus colors and these will also be used as bedroom decor after the party. I think that it is smart to use things for parties that you can also use later. I feel better about spending the money if it is getting multiple uses and that is what is so great about the wood connections products is they last so long.

Now lets see some tester photo booth pics shall we....

There is no way this little babe is going to be one in a week and a half....they grow up too fast.

Color Run SLC, Utah

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Color Run
All photos are courtesy of The Color Run site
 {all opinions and thoughts are 100% my own}

You probably saw on my Instagram, if you don't follow me...shame on you. J/k but really go follow me :), then you saw that I just signed up for this bad boy of a race a few months ago. The best reason why I am sharing this with you is because there are still spots open to register! And it is in a week and a half. So get signed up, no excuses. This is a really fun race that anyone can do.

I have been a runner for a while now, but have always had to start over with my training after having babies. I run when I am pregnant but it just isnt the same ya know. I like to train. I like the me time and I like the feeling of accomplishment. And I know you will too. Plus this race is the perfect first race. It will be my husbands first 5k and I am really excited for him. You guys he hated running and then we got him to sign up for the Ragnar Vegas with us this coming November so he has been training and he is doing awesome!!!

Once I heard about this fun run I knew I had to jump right on board. I have been training here and there for 1/2 marathons but every time I get to about 10 miles I get pregnant and it stops my training. So this my friends is going to be my first step into the 1/2 marathon direction again and this time, by darn, I am going to make that goal. In fact I am officially signed up for one in September wish me luck. And this will be the perfect race to get me back into race mode.  Not to mention after the tragedy at the Boston Marathon I want to run in memory of the runners. I want to run for those who couldn't finish and I know that alone will motivate me.

There is something about a race that just puts me into drive mode. I love the training, the adrenaline and the feeling you get at the end, you know the one that you just feel freakin amazeballs! 5ks, 10k fun runs they are all fun, but the color run is going to be a BLAST!!! This is no ordinary run, my friends, this is all about getting colorful and having fun. Just look at these pictures and watch the video at the end and just tell me you don't think this looks like an absolute BLAST. I dare ya!!!! Ok let me tell you a little more about it to get you even more on board if you aren't already.

This race is less about your 10-minute mile or 8 or 6 if you are super fast, and more about just having the time of your life. The color run is a 5k, un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer station. But the fun doesn't stop there, no way it continues at the finish line with a gigantic "color Festival," using more colored powder to create happiness and lasting memories. Trust me this is going to be the best post-5k party on the planet yo! I am getting so excited about this just talking about it.

Run by yourself {and make some new friends}, with a spouse, a friend, your whole family, or get a huge freakin awesome group together and have a party while you get fit and feel accomplished, because when you finish I promise you will.

Now if you live in Salt Lake City, I would love for you to come and train with me, be my running partner or we can make a little running group. Why not, but seriously how fun would that be and we can keep each other motivated and be each others support. Email me at wjwiki07@hotmail.com for more info.

The actual race is August 24th in SLC Utah, but, The Color Run team is anticipating that this race is going to sell out quickly since there is only a couple short weeks left.Also I have a promo code for you to get $5 off the registration FEE! wahoo. Just type in the code: COLORMOMLIFE at checkout. you can register HERE. Another bonus is if you register as a group you save another $5. Share this code and information on facebook, with your friends and family and lets all make this our goal and have a running party!

I will be there, in my white shirt and ready to be color blasted....will you? Come and find me and say Hi!

Check out this sweet video...if I haven't already it will convince you that you want in on all this colorful goodness.

It's true! It's true! I got selected along with 11 other amazing blogger to be a contestant on Blog Wars over at Just Between Friends

What is blog Wars you ask? Well it is a creative and friendly competition among bloggers. 12 contestants, 4 weeks, 1 winner.
