Holiday Plaques {The Wood Connection}

I love how the wood connections allows you to let your creativity sour. The raw wood that you get to make your own, and bring your creativity into your home is so fun. I am happy every time I go and leave with much more than I planned on. My kids also love it and love coming home with a little craft for themselves to bring home and work on with mommy.

I loved my Valentines plaque so much that I created from the Wood Connection goodies that I just had to share with you my St. Patricks and Easter versions. They are so simple, easy to put together, cheap, and so fun to be able to put up during the holidays on your mantel, the wall or a little side table. All three versions I used the same technique and the supplies are from the Wood Connection.

Supplies Needed

-Small Wooden Plaque
-Small character wood pieces
-Paint
-Paint brushes
-Glitter
-Wood glue
-Sand block
-vinyl
-painters tape

***All of these items can be found and were purchased at the WOOD CONNECTION

What I did
For the St. Patricks plaque First I just painted the plaque gold. Then once it was dry I placed the vinyl on the wood plaque and painted over it with the ivory white.  I did two coats letting it dry completely between each coat and that was plenty of coverage.

Then Once the white was dry I peeled off the vinyl so that you could see the gold "Lucky" underneath.

On the easter plaque I simply painted the whole thing a pale yellow. I did two coats letting it dry completely between each coat. Then once it was dry I taped off stripes with painters tape and painted the middle of the plaque a light blue. Two coats letting it dry completely between each coat and then once dry peeling off the painters tape

Then on both the plaques once all the paint was dry I sanded down the edges to make it look a little worn. I feel like this makes it look more finished.

Next it was time to paint the little wood character pieces. For the pot of gold I simply painted the top gold and the bottom black, then once it was dry I sanded down the edges and then painted on wood glue and put on the glitter. For the clover I painted it green and added glitter and she horseshoe is gold with glitter.  Once those were all dry I glued them to the plaque with wood glue and your all done.

With the easter one I did an egg that I plainted pink and added glitter, a bunny just white and sanded down and a carrot with orange and green glitter for the top. Attached with wood glue.

This was my valentines version I created last month. You can find the tutorial for this one HERE.

All three and I am sure I will keep on with this tradition and make one for every season and holiday I am excited to make more. Thank you to The wood connection for having me and providing me with these awesome products. Now go and get your craft on!!!

JULY BANNER {Tutorial}

Well it is here again one of my very favorite times of year. If you follow my blog it is no secret how much I love summer, the forth of July and this beautiful country. And I like to celebrate by decorating my home in red, white and blue decor. I also love banners, so of course I had to combine the two and it turned out so cute I had to share it with you all so you can make one too. It is so easy and it will only take an afternoon. Here is how to make your own Patriotic banner.

{Materials I Used}

-Wood Banner Pieces- The Wood Connection
-Wood Letters and stars- The Wood connection
-Paint
-Wood Glue
-Sponge brush
-Paper
-Bakers Twine
-Sand paper

{How I made it}

First I cut out the paper I wanted to use on the banner piece to a smaller section.

Use your wood glue or mod podge to adhere the paper to the banner piece

Place something heavy on top to let it dry so that it doesn't bubble and dries evenly. Then I painted the edges of the banner white. After it was all dry I took the sand paper and sanded off the extra paper around the edges so all that was left was a perfectly fit paper to banner. Then I mod podged over the top of the paper then let it completely dry until it was clear and glossy. This is to help protect the paper and it will last longer.

While the banner pieces were drying I broke out the red, white and blue paint and painted the letters red, the small banner pieces blue and the stars white. I did two coats on all of them letting them completely dry between each coat.

Once everything was dry and all the paper was on the banners I glued the letters onto the large banner pieces and the stars to the smaller pieces. Then I strung it all together with some red and white bakers twine.

This is the perfect banner that will last year after year for the patriotic holidays and will go great with your summer home decor. This was such a simple project that only took an afternoon. Now go make one for your home! Make it your own change up the colors, the paper and make it fit you. Get creative and have fun doing it.

Bring on the PINK Valentine Decor {Tutorials and Ideas}

I love to decorate for Valentines Day. It used to be a holiday I would skip when it came to decor, but I will take any excuse to add some pink into this home filled with boys every once and a while. Really though I am loving all the pink, girliness and femininity of the decor this month. And well, the boys can just deal with it one month out of the year right?! So I just thought I would share how I decorated my home this month with some links to some tutorials or shops.

Sometimes you just need pretty and simple. For my kitchen table it is pretty small so I don't like a lot of clutter. I simply used a white table runner and placed a vase in the middle. I have these little snow balls left over from Christmas that I believe I got at Tai Pan and the hearts are cut off from heart picks from the dollar store. Then I simply added a little red ribbon. So simply but so pretty,

For my faux mantel I used my favorite backdrop that I made a couple years ago, you can find the tutorial HERE. I love it because I can use it for holidays but also year round since my kitchen is red. I got the globe from a Cricut event, the pink vase is just a spray painted soda bottle, the little glass containers are from the dollar store and the target dollar spot and I just filled them with valentine candy.  The candle sticks are from Ikea and I made the Rosette balls from THIS tutorial from House of Smiths. Then I spelled out Valentine with Scrabble letters and finished it off with a super simple garland. The garland is just twine with pine cones and dollar store snowflakes strung on.

My sofa table is always a fun place to decorate and I like to use larger decor items to fill up the space and give it some depth. The Love wood letters are from the Wood connection and you can find my tutorial of how I made them HERE. The little I heart U vases are from the dollar spot at Target and I filled them with dollar store heart picks. Then the rest are printables I found HERE, HERE and HERE. I used frames I already had and spray painted the pink and white ones.

I have a really fun small and tall red table next to my sofa table I simply added my adorable and Favorite owl from Michaels and a milk glass vase from the DI with some babies breath inside. And it is always fun to decorate the Chalkboard for whatever holiday or event is coming up.

This adorable Be Mine bunting was made by my mom over at Organize and Decorate Everything and she gave it to me. I love it and always find the perfect place for it no matter where we are living at the time.

I put this pillow out every year. I love the pink on my couch mostly, and the beaded letters are so much fun. I have had this pillow since I was in High school. My mom gave it to me one year for valentines day and it has seen many dorms and homes since.

You can find my straw wreath tutorial HERE. I use this for many occasions and holidays, I love how versatile these wreaths can be. The tutorial for the chalkboard banner is found HERE.

Love sign from Michaels, and white vases from ikea filled with some twigs from michaels.

I love this little pop of Valentine Love and color in the little guest bathroom in out main living area. The tutorial for the Feather wreath is HERE. For the frame, I simply wrote out All you need is...is all you need on my computer, printed it out, and then stuck on the glitter love with some sticky dots on the glass of the frame. I got the LOVE from the target dollar spot.

My antique windows are my very favorite I LOVE them. I simply added some washi tape bunting to dress them up from this month. Tutorial HERE.

Upstairs in the hall way I have these fun little shelves that are great to get a little bit of the holiday spirit up there too. I got the Heart print HERE and just put it in a spray painted pink frame I got from the dollar store. Added and Ikea frame, an antique wood molding piece, and a little glass birdie from Michaels. On the left I have a picture of me and the hubby, another love bird, and a bird cage with some heart picks inside. On the right side I put a picture up of my other two little valentines, a spray painted pink soda bottle and a fun chicken wire frame for texture.

Phew! Did you catch all that! Fun right?! Just pick a few ideas that you love
and bring them into your home and your style.
I hope you were able to be inspired by some of my ideas
