Our 2013 HALLOWEEN

It is no secret that October is my favorite month. I love the fall crisp air, the boots, the sweaters, my birthday, pumpkins, and of course Halloween. I have always loved Halloween, but now that I have kids I love it even more. The festivities leading up to it, the pumpkin patches, and corn mazes, the dressing up, the countdowns and of course watching them so so excited to knock on each door and show off their costume while saying in their small voices trick or treat, holding out their pumpkin bucket in their tiny little hands. Watching my kids enjoying themselves just melts this mama bear's heart!

Maddux started off our Halloween week with his little preschool party on Tuesday. He got to dress up and he was so excited to show off his costume to Mrs.Vanessa and his little friends. I made their little shells to add to the costume. Maddux really wanted to be a ninja turtle this year but he was not stopping there he insisted that we needed to be a family of ninja turtles which was perfect for our little family of four.

Next we picked Maddux up and headed to the pumpkin patch as a family. It was a nice quiet Tuesday afternoon and we just got to enjoy each other. Maddux lead us through the kids corn maze, we all played on the old tractors, and then we got our wheel barrels and walked the patch. The crop struggled a little this year and since we came a little late the pickins were pretty slim and there were a lot of pumpkins that were struggling, so we got a few smaller decorative pumpkins, and some corn stalks for me to use for my fall decor. After we had our fun we headed to Walmart to get the big pumpkins to carve, they had perfect ones and they were half off.

After some much needed naptime we were off to Ty's aunts house for some soup and pumpkin carving goodness.

We were able to each carve 2 that night and each carved two more on Wednesday night. In the 6 years that we have been married we have grown to love carving pumpkins. It is more than just a face on a pumpkin now, we want to go big or go home and we are getting better each year. This year I even took a crack at some shaving. Thanks to Ty's brother Dan and our sister in law Brooke for showing us the way and getting us addicted to this fun activity.

We got them done just in time to be able to display them on Halloween and they fit perfectly on our long front porch in a line. The neighbors and kids loved them.

Halloween night was full of my boys perfect laughter, running in pure joy, smiles, and lots of candy. While we waited for Ty to come home Maddux and I passed out candy to the early trick or treaters, then we had a pizza with the pepperonis in the shape of a jack o lantern face for dinner {tradition each year}. After our boys tummys were full and they were about to run out the door we finally went out around our cute little neighborhood and did some trick or treating.

We got home after the boys were tired and had full buckets, we packed up the car and the pumpkins and headed to Ty's parents house. We hung out, talked, displayed our pumpkins with theirs, did some trick or treating at some friends and family around their house and the kids got hopped up on candy.

On our drive home the boys were out like a light and it is safe to say they had the times of their life.
I hope you all had a happy Halloween and are looking forward to giving thanks and a lot of family time.

Halloween Project Round up

With Halloween and Fall quickly approaching I am busting my bum to get some really fun crafts, decor and tutorials done to be able to share with you so we can get it all up the first of October. Every year I mention how much I love October and Halloween and this year is so exception, I just get so giddy this time of year. It could be that my birthday is in October, or the fun of dressing up for Halloween, the decor, the fall fashion or all of the above but it is just so exciting.

Like I said I really want to share with you some fun projects I have up my sleeve, but since I am alas getting used to a new crazy schedule it is taking me a bit longer. Hubby is working a wacky schedule and it is throwin off all our groove. So bare with me and I promise within the next two week,s before October, I will have some really fun tutorials and ideas up for you. Until then I don't want to leave you hangin so I am sharing with you the links {to find them more quickly} of some past Halloween projects I have shared so you can get started on the crafting goodness. Sorry about some of the quality of pictures {these are old tutorials} but I promise they are really fun projects that you can all tackle fairly easily.

Vinyl Window Subway Art
I don't have a tutorial for this, but I just simply used my cutting machine and computer software. I used different fonts and sizes for each word, cut them onto vinyl, then applied them to the window in a random pattern to give it the subway art feel

Glass Jars
Simply use your candle stick holders and glass jars to make beautiful vases that you an fill with pumpkins, treats, or even a glittery skull.

 Easy Barbie Costume {from Toy Story 3}
 Don't mind the chubbiness I had just had a baby 2 months before this yikes.
My family was a toy story theme, woody, buzz, ken and barbie to see our costumes you can go HERE
 My outfit was so fun to put together. I got the matching shirt and leggings to look like a one piece from Wet Seal for only $6 each, then I got the belt and Shoes from the DI for super cheap
they were originally white and I spray painted them pink
then the leg warmers are actually just socks that I cut to make look like leg warmers
Then to complete the outfit I have a pink ribbon in my hair
Pretty good for putting it together myself
Id say

Come back for some new and fresh fall/Halloween decor and project ideas.

Top 6 Fall Trends for 2013 {Fashion}

Its Thursday! I love Thursdays, because it is almost Friday and Friday means its the weekend, did you get all that?! And this thursday I am going to be sharing with you some of my fashion knowledge I will be doing some more fashion posts here on A mommy's life with a touch of yellow because I have a really fun announcement! I am the new fashion contributor over at Organize and Decorate Everything! I will be posting over there once a month for at least a year. Cool huh?! I am so excited to be apart of such an amazing blog and to be able to share what I love with an even bigger audience.

My first year of college is when I really found my niche for fashion. My friends and family always said I had a unique sense of style, which to me meant I was pretty fearless in trying it all out! When I became a wife and mother I loved all the fashion and style even more, don't get me wrong I love a good pair of sweats but there is just something about putting an outfit together that makes you feel confident about yourself. I am always shopping on a budget and love to share how to be in style without breaking the bank.

Today I am going to be sharing with you my top 6 favorite Fall Fashion trends of 2013. I am so ready for the fall season, the crispness in the air, the fall activities, the changing beautiful leaves and of course the clothes! I love all of these and I believe each of them can be incorporated into every age and personality. Everyday women this is for all of you! So lets get started....

Chambray is not going anywhere this Fall and it is coming back in such fun shades and patterns, stars, polka dots and stripes. I love all the different ways one simple denim shirt can be styled, and because of this I feel it is considered a staple piece that should be in every one of your closets. They are everywhere and they don't have to be expensive. I got mine at Target on sale for only $18. Pair it with your leggings for a relaxed fall look, and dress it up with a skirt or a blazer. You can go funky with some patterns or keep it classy and simple with the perfect shade of blue. I love this trend because you can be as funky or conservative as you want with it.

At one time the cropped pants were considered floods and were a fashion no no, but the crop pants have come in so much so that we are rolling them up to give them the cropped look. I love this look for the summer to fall transition. Roll up your blue jeans, patterned and colored jeans, and even your khaki pants, but just a little and its all about the skinny rolls. This is a super flattering look and the best part it shows off all your cute shoes! Pair the rolled pants with some patterned flats and an oversized tee, dress it up with some heels, or get a little bold and wear them with some ankle boots. Roll them up! Lets see those ankles.

Leather is so so in right now and although that seems like a scary thing, it really doesn't have to be. Don't be scared of the leather, embrace it! Yes, of course the leather pants are making a come back but that is not the only way to get leather into your wardrobe. So even though I am on the hunt for the perfect leather leggings those are not for everyone. Add some leather is some more conspicuous ways such as a cotton tee with some leather sleeves, or a leather sewn on pocket, try a leather skirt, a leather collar on a dressed up blouse, or a jacket with leather sleeves. Wear as much or as little leather that you are confident in but find something because it is really fun and brings some wow into your outfit.

One of my favs of all fall trends are the boots! So bust out those pretty things because I am here to tell ya they are here to stay and I just don't think they are going anywhere any time soon. When I think fall I think boots, its the best part! Try them all: at the knee, over the knee, ankle, flat, heels, swede and leather! Pair them with your favorite jeans, or a skirt!

Bring on the over sized shirts! It is all about the loose this season. I am loving this for so many reasons, and we are talking both over sized cotton tees and blouses. These can be casual for everyday or dressy for date night. They hide so much which is my favorite part, they are comfortable which is great for all the playing and cleaning we do all day, they are easy to move in and you can breathe in them. You can feel confident in what you are wearing instead of sucking in or standing at just the right angle.

And last but not least we cannot forget the camo. Camo is back and not just because of Duck Dynasty. Which by the way I don't see what all the hype is about. Don't get me wrong it is awesome how they were able to become successful but the TV show is not my cup of tea. Anyway....the camo is all over. It is here in pants, shirts, jackets and even shoes. Camo is the new leopard of this season. Go bold with the pants or bring in just a little fun with the flats. You do not have to feel like you are camping while wearing this trend. Pair is with some fun jewelry and a colored jean to make it a bit more girlie. I am in still on the hunt for the perfect camo piece for my closet. I'll post it in a WIW post when I find what I am looking for.

I hope I have inspired you and helped you feel confident in bringing these trends into your style this fall season.  Originally posted HERE.
