Move it Monday #7 {Wall Workout}

Welcome back to MOVE IT MONDAY. It has been so nice here in Utah I just had to get in a good little workout in outside. I am not mad at you mother nature. This weather is so fantastic. This is also one you can do inside if the weather does not permit, all you need is a PVC pipe or broom stick, a wall, an elevated surface such as a step or bench, and yourself. This is the perfect workout to start out your week right. This is a full body workout that is sure to get you energized for the rest of the day, and should only take you 30 minutes to complete from start to finish including the warm up, tabata and the AMRAP. So lets do it together and let me know how it goes.

To find some of my previous at home/out side work outs you can find them HERE HEREHERE ,  HEREHERE, HERE and an introduction to the series HERE, you can also find all of my other workouts I have shared on the blog since Last year through the search box on the side or the links I provide at the bottom of this post. I cannot wait to share with you all of my workouts and recipes to help you to be a better you. This year is going to be a great one. Lets get healthy and crush some goals together. Remember you can always email me with suggestions or questions at wjwiki07@hotmail.com Now lets finally get to this workout shall we!!!

Let's take a closer look at each exercise and break it all down before we get started....

WARM UP

Warm up! It is important! Don't skip it and do it all! Its like breakfast it should not be skipped, it should be taken seriously and it should be done well, because it prepares you for the rest of the workout.

Running/jogging is always a great way to get the body warmed up and ready to go. It gets your heart rate going, your body warm and your blood flow going! This week in the warm up the running is a 400 m run which is a quarter mile or once around the track if you have access to one.

Pass thrus. You will want a wide grip on the PVC/stick raising it above your head keeping your arms straight pass through to behind you, rotating your shoulders, then still  keeping your arms straight you will pass back up to over head and back down to your hips. Repeat until you have done ten.

good mornings. These are fantastic at stretching out those hammies, calves, back, abs and pretty much everything else. You will place your hands about 6-8 inches past shoulder width place the bar behind your head, and resting on your shoulders, then you are going to bend at your hips to a 90 degree angle keeping your hammies tight, your head up and your back straight. This form is very important and will warm you up and stretch in all the right places. Then you will stand back up. And repeat until you have done 10.

Air Squats- Start in a standing position with your feet about shoulder width apart. Before you do the squat it is important that when you are squatting down to keep your torso vertical, your weight on your heels, knees push out- tracking over the feet. Then when you squat down you will keep your eyes forward and slightly up, your arms out for balance, and squat down until the crease of your hips are at or below your knee, core tight,  keeping a good lumbar curve and chest up, then stand back up and repeat.

Inch Worm Push ups You will start with your legs apart and your hands touching the ground in front of you then you will walk your hand out until you are in a plank push up position, you will do a full push up with your chest touching the ground, back to the plank push up position, then move your hand back to your feet. Then repeat.

TABATA

A TABATA is a short 4 minute workout of 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds rest and repeat until the 8 rounds are up. This can be any skill you are wanting to work on. If you are doing two skills you will do 4 minutes of one and then 4 minutes of the other. For this workout we are working 8 minutes and 2 skills.

Box jump- Start on the edge of an elevated surface, bleachers or steps, jump up and land on the bleacher the box jump is not complete until your hips and aligned with your shoulders at the top with a straight body, then you will step or jump down and repeat.

Dips- Go over to an elevated surface of a chair, stair, or in my case our driveway, walk your feet out then keeping your hips up and your abs tight bend your arms down into a dip. Elbows back until you reach 90 degrees and straighten arms back up, repeat.

WORKOUT

This workout is a 10 minute AMRAP meaning you will be working the whole ten minutes. You will go through the workout and repeat it until you reach that 10 minute mark trying to get as many rounds as you can before time is up. Keep track of those rounds as you go.

Wall Walks- you will start in a push up position on the ground you will then push up and start walking your feet up the wall and your hands on the ground toward the wall until you are in a straight handstand position against the wall with your shoulders pushing up, legs straight, arms straight and your head in, then you will walk back down into a push up and repeat until you have done 5.

Split squats- You will do 5 of these on each leg. Put one foot in front of you and the other on the wall with a slight bend in the knee, then you are going to lower down into a lunge position and then stand back up to a straight front leg. Make sure to keep your chest up and your core tight. Keep your weight central with the weight in your heel in your front foot lowering straight down not forward.

Push ups- On your hands and toes, core tight bum tucked under and hips in a line. Go down to chest on the ground and push back up.  Make sure your elbow are tucked into your sides as you bend them and not out to the sides. You want your elbow pointing back.

and repeat all of those for 10 minutes as many rounds as you can complete. Give yourself a goal, push yourself and get as many rounds as you can in that 10 minutes. It is as easy or as hard as you make it by how much you are willing to push yourself.

Motivate Me Monday- Did you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year

Photobucket

with MEAshley and Amanda

Two weeks ago we challenged you
to have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Did you?
I did

It all started when the hubby took his last final it was a party
Not really but we were so happy and totally needed the break
It is nice to have my hubby home with me
He has been home all day with me and Maddux for two weeks and
He still has one more week of his break left
I will be sad when it is over
Ty will be going back to school on Monday Jan 9th
and I don't know if you know this but I will finally be finishing on teaching license
and will be working on my student teaching starting Monday January 9th
until Friday April 20th
I have to be honest I am not very excited
I know it is only a few months and then I will be back at being a stay
at home mom but I am dreading not being home with Maddux
I am probably going to cry everyday but I just need to get through
until April and I will be done
and can just stay home but will at least be all the way done
and have my teaching degree for if one day I need to or want to work
but for now I just want to get it done and be home with my little Maddux
So here is to hoping that the time goes by really fast

Anyway back to Christmas the first week of his break was spent
shopping and busy getting ready for the BIG day (Christmas)
Ty did all his shopping on Tuesday I did most mine on Wednesday
and we worked on Maddux's tool bench all week together
It was just so nice to spend so much time together

Then on Christmas Eve we spent then night playing games, wrapping presents,
eating, playing Santa, the kids doing a nativity, PJs,  talking and laughing with the Ulrich Family
We even slept over at Ty's parents so Maddux could be with his cousins
on Christmas morning
I did not eat so well, I had it all even some yummy pure sugar yams
oops

Christmas morning was of course a blast! We watched Maddux open presents
opened our presents, played with all our new stuff, Ate a delicious Christmas Breakfast
and went to church.
I do not feel guilty about the Christmas breakfast because although I did eat
too much and it was not healthy I feel like I deserve it on Christmas
We got home from church laid Maddux down, opened more presents
and then headed to my grandparents house for a while
Then the rest of the night was spent at my parents house
playing games, opening more presents, and snacks
We spent the night at my parents on Christmas and the next night
Went to the temple square lights on Monday and just hung out with the family.

Oh and I forgot to mention my amazing hubby got me
New Nike (super light for running) Running shoes, running pants
and a Nike plus for Christmas!
I am so spoiled and so excited for it all

The rest of the second week has just be spent hanging out together
totally relaxing and doing whatever we want including a little shopping
girls sushi lunch with my friends
and a fun game night with our friends Marcus and Maria

New Years eve was so much fun and was just spent the three of us together
it was quiet, simple and just what I wanted...PERFECT
We started the night with eating at in and out, did a little shopping,
laid Maddux down for the night
and then watched a movie together all snuggled up
ending the night with a new years kiss

New years day did not start out so happy
I have been sick so that wasn't fun I spent most of the day on my bed
sleeping or on the couch

The rest of this week we don't have big plans
Just want to get our bums in gear and start going to the gym again
and spending the whole week together as a family
enjoying every minute of it
I am going to have a hard time when we have to go back to reality
I like spending every day with my hubby!

This Week
So when it comes to food I didn't do horrible on the during the 2 week break so far
except on the actual days of Christmas eve, Christmas and New Years Eve
I didn't do so well
For eating I give myself a B-

Now exercise on the other hand was completely horrible
I haven't done anything except walking around the mall and stores
since Dec 12th. Yup you counted right that means
I have not exercised in 3 weeks
I know horrible right
I feel guilty enough already
but I am planning on going tomorrow
and so is hubby and we are ready to start the new year out right
I am excited to try out my new running pants, running shoes, tank top and nike plus
I give my self a F for exercising
Also I have no idea if I have gained weigh over the holidays because
I have been avoiding the scale but I always do this time of year
Good thing January will work it all off if I did

My Goals This Next Week

 1. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day
(I know I put this every week but I want to continue
to drink enough water)

3.  eat more fruits and veggies each day
4. workout 4 times this week
5. Run 4 miles at least once this week

 Next Weeks Topic/Challenge

I want you to think of some new years resolutions
Make some realistic goals and tell us how you are going to maintain
those goals throughout the new year
You can share all of your new years resolutions
but make sure to include some health and exercise in there as well
I can't wait to read your goals
and help to get me motivated for the new year

Motivate Me Monday-Healthy Holiday Snack

I am so so excited for today's Motivate Me Monday
It is such a good motivator for me and hopefully
I am helping and motivating you as well

Link up and tell us what is going on in your fitness journey
even if it isn't this weeks challenge we want to hear what is on your mind
about your health and fitness
we want to see your accomplishments
or help you through your challenges

Thank you thank you ladies
for linking up last week
and for sharing your fitness and health goals/tips and tricks
You all really motivate me to want to do better
Photobucket

with MEAshley and Amanda

Today's Challenge/ Topic is:
share how you are doing staying away from Christmas treat temptations
and maybe share a healthy version of a Christmas treat
that we can make and not feel so guilty!!!

so I haven't been doing horrible when it comes to
eating this Christmas season
Not any worse then the rest of the year
but not really any better either

But I would be lying if I said I haven't had a delicious treat here and there
my weakness this holiday season so far has been peppermint ice cream and the
sour cream and onion Ritz chips
seriously amazing!

I think the reason though that it hasn't been that bad yet is
because we missed our ward Christmas party
which would have had a ton of treats at
and we missed our friend party
because me and Maddux were sick
and because I was sick I haven't eaten as many treats and normal
so I wouldn't really credit myself for eating well by choice
unfortunately it is more because we have missed
Christmas parties and not feeling well

I wish I could say it is because I am awesome
and wonderful and eat perfect but that is not the case
In fact I am more worried about this weekend
and New years eve weekend
so I am going to challenge myself to
eat smaller portions of the treats
eat more of the veggie tray and
use some of the yummy healthy recipes you link up today

So the recipe I am going to link up today
is really exciting it is a healthier version of a ranch dip

Ingredients:
4 tsp of dry buttermilk ranch dressing
1 cup low fat cottage cheese
2-4 tbs of water (add more for thinner dressing)
and if you wanted you could also add some dill

Directions
Put your cottage cheese and your water in a blender
until smooth
this will smooth out the cottage cheese so there aren't
those curds in it
Then once it is smooth add the dried dressing
and chill for several hours

and you could dip veggies in it
or low fat wheat thins
Makes 4 servings

Now are you ready for the Ranch comparisons?
Serving size for veggie dip 1/4 cup:
Regular Kraft Ranch: 300 cal, fat 32g, protein 0g, carbs 2g
Light Kraft Ranch: 154 cal, fat 14g, protein 0g, carbs 6g
Cottage cheese ranch: 50 cal, fat 0g, protein 7g, carbs 1g

Amazing huh!
Seriously you have to try it out
It is a perfect snack for the holidays
while you are watching a movie, chatting
or playing games

This WEEK:
ok so I really don't want to share with you my week
but I have to because other wise I feel
like I am lying to you all
Well I am human and have struggles
and one of my struggles is working out
while the hubby is in finals
I know I am such a stress case
and the working out would actually help that
but I just feel like I don't have the time
when he is gone all day studying
but I was going to be good and was planning on going to
the gym at least Thursday, Friday and Saturday
but of course Thursday rolls around and I am sick
My stomach hurt, I had ache muscles, and just
felt bleh
then I found out my little one had a double ear infection
so lets just say it was a bad week AGAIN!
and I am so glad it is over
I am glad hubby is now on his Christmas break
and that I am feeling better
HERE is to a better week
Moving forward
Just keep swimming swimming swimming
:)

My Goals This Next Week:
 1. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day
(I know I put this every week but I want to continue
to drink enough water)

3.  eat more fruits and veggies each day
4. workout 4 times this week
5. Run 5 miles at least once this week
6. Make the yummy dip

Next weeks topic/Challenge
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

Now Link up and share our healthier Christmas snack/treat
