Ikea Lazy susan to Side Table/ Stool {Ikea +10 tutorial}

I am so excited Darin asked me to be apart of the Studio 5's Ikea +10 series this month. I got to choose how I wanted to do the challenge and I thought it would be way fun to do it with my mom, Leanne from Organize and Decorate Everything and my sister in Law, Brooke from All Things thrifty. I loved this idea since we are all tied together, all have blogs and are all creative. It was so cool to see how different our projects turned out and how are creativeness and personal styles came out in the projects. You can see Leanne's HERE and Brooke's HERE.

I also got to choose the item from Ikea, I wondered around Ikea, kidsless might I add {it was wonderful}, picked up a few extra things on the way, like This and some curtains I will also be making over soon, and when I saw the lazy Susan I knew right away that was MY item! It caught my eye because of the shape, the raw wood and I loved how it rotated. oh the possibilities!!! So exciting.

We each got two lazy susans to come up with whatever we wanted with a $10 budget. I did two completely different things. One for me that was pretty and completely my style {the side table/stool I am sharing today} and the other was so cute and for my kids/the family to share. Today I am going to show you The side table/rotating stool, and later on this week I will share my other one.

{Supplies I used}

-Ikea SNUDDA Lazy Susan $7.99 {featured item}
plus $10
-Ikea Marius Stool $5.99
-White Paint {Already had it one hand left over from other projects- Free} but if you need some you can use one thing of craft paint from Michaels for only $2.00 and use a 40& off coupon on it
-Paint roller {unless you are using spray paint then ignore this one- FREE}
-Yellow Spray paint {Already had on hand from this project- FREE} Again you can get this at Michaels and use a coupon on it
-Painters tape {on hand FREE}
-E6000 glue or hot Glue {had on hand- FREE}
-Drill or screw driver to put stool together {stool come with screws needed}
-Minwax Polycrylic clear water base finish {This is totally optional- I used it just because it was white and with kids and a lot of use I wanted it to be protected- left over from project- Again not needed but I included it because I thought I would use it}

oh yeah I totally came in under budget! Holla!!!! and you can too just by buying smart and using coupons. Hobby lobby and Michaels both have 40$ off coupons my friends and they have apps to make it even easier to use, the scan it right from your phone. That is my secret to how I craft with awesome supplies on the cheap, also use Amazon!

{How I made it}

-The very first thing I did was take the ring off the bottom, because the raw wood surface will make it adhere better to the stool when we get to that point. And it is easier to do that first before you start painting. It is so easy to take off it pretty much just popped right off no problem.

-Ok this next part is totally up to you. I wanted to paint the top of mine white because of the way I wanted the stool/table to look as a whole, but you could totally leave it the raw wood color if you wanted and that would look really pretty too. You can paint the top whatever color your heart desires.

I painted mine with some left over paint I had from doing our dressers and a few other projects, so I rolled it on since I already had it and I am not going to spend money unless I have to. You could also use craft paint or spray paint they will all work just fine. I did 2 coats of paint and that was plenty to get the full coverage. I also painted the back side since you will be able to see it a little bit and I did two coats on the back as well.

Once it was dry I sprayed it with the finishing spray. Again this isn't needed, but I decided to use it so I wanted to share.

-Now that the top of the table/stool is all done next up is painting the stool part. I got this for only $5.99 at Ikea of course and it was perfect for what I was going for. I loved the white but I wanted to add a splash of color. Also I have been loving this Dipped look lately so I thought I would try it out. {I ended up LOVING it}. So here is how I achieved the dipped look I was going for on the legs of the stool.

-First I measured how much of the white I wanted to show at the bottom. This is what is going to look like was dipped in white paint. Then I marked it and measured and marked each leg all the same.

-Once they were all marked I taped them off. Covering the whole piece of the leg that I wanted to stay white.

-Once they were all taped off I sprayed away. In yellow of course. I did two coats of the yellow and that was plenty. Once it was dry I peeled off all the tape and the lines were perfect, leaving the bottoms white. I then sprayed the whole thing with the clear finish {optional}.

-Next you are going to follow the instructions from the stool package to put the top on, using the screws and white pieces provided, the top and a screw driver or drill. It was super easy maybe look 2 minutes.

-Then you are going to adhere the lazy susan to the stool making it all once piece by spreading either E6000 {I love this stuff I use it for just about everything that needs gluing including a flip flop, yes a flip flop} or hot glue would work as well on the small circle on the back of the lazy susan and then placing it on top of the stool making sure it is centered.

The underneath view to make sure it is center. It is easy to see because of the hole in the stool.

-After it is glued on you are going to put something heavy on top of it {we used my husbands law school books because they are flippin huge and heavy which is just what you need} to make sure it adheres right so it is all one piece. We let it dry with the stuff on top for about 24 hours and then it was good to go. Ready to be decorated, or used in an office/craft room.

Oh my goodness isn't is so pretty! I love the style, the colors and the all around yumminess of it.

I love this project because it can be used for 2 different things. You can use it as a side table. Put pretty decorations on it and put it in your living room, bed room, guest room, or even an entry way.

It would also be the best side table for when you are sick.You can load it up with all your needs {tissues, crackers, drink, medicine, phone, remote, etc.} and you can just spin it around to get whatever you need without even sitting up or moving. Awesome right?! I will have to try it out next time I am sick on the coach or in bed and let you know if it was up to par.

You could also use it simply as a super cute rotating/spinning stool. This would be perfect for a desk, a craft room, a kids art station, or a shorter table/island. Fun right!

There we go we finally got a smile on the stool. Success!
 So what do you think? Would you put this in your home? would you use it as a table or a stool?

 Thank you Studio 5 for having me again. It was a blast and I just feel apart of the family now. See you again soon! You can Check out my segment  below or HERE

    Just what am I doing wrong? I took into consideration just developing one more tag template.
