DIY St. Patty's Wood Plaque

Remember this valentine wood plaque that I told you about a couple posts ago? Its the one that I got at Roberts before I came along craft blogs and got enough courage to make some of my own crafts. Well this year when I was decorating for V-day and got reminded of this, I thought to myself I could totally make that. If only I would have thought that before i bought it I could have saved some money.

Then I thought St. Patrick's day is coming up and I don't have one single St. Patrick's day decor item. you heard me right not one before this year and now I am on a roll and the house is cute and green. I came up with some ideas on my own, I got inspired by other crafts and I got inspired by some blogs and I will share some of them with you on here. The first thing that I am going to share is my DIY St. Patty's day wood plaque inspired by the V-day plaque picture above. Before my addiction to craft blogs I never would have even thought to decorate for St. Patricks day but it has been so much fun.

These are the supplies you will need for this project.
1-A wood plaque (I already had this in my craft storage area just waiting to be created into something. I got it for like $2 on clearance at quilted bear last fall)
2- A wood Shamrock (Not pictured above but I got one for $1 at Roberts)
3-Paint (Green...I got them for really cheap at Walmart some of you may already have two shades of green but I am still trying to collect a stash of paint colors)
4- Tacky Glue (I already had this from previous projects)
5-Sponge Brushes (had them)
6-Sand paper (had it)
7- Vinyl (Already had it)
8- A digital cutting machine-I used my Silhouette (or you can trace and cut the vinyl if you don't have one)

First, I painted the wood plaque a dark green and painted the shamrock a lighter green. Second, I cut out the word Luck on the white vinyl with my silhouette. I used the font "Pass the Chex" and got it from here. I liked this one because it was very fun and I liked how all the letters were different sizes.

After that I decided it needed a little something else so I cut out some of the song lyrics to Jason Mraz's Lucky on white vinyl. "Lucky I'm in love with my best friend, Lucky to have been where I have been, Lucky to be coming home again." This has always been one of mine and Ty's favorite songs since we first heard it and I thought it would be perfect for this craft and on display in our home. For the phrase I used the font "Pea Zobrist" from here.

Lastly to give it a finished look I sanded the edges of the plaque and the shamrock and wala! So what do you think? Do you like it? It was so super easy, cheap (because I had most of the stuff it only cost me about $3), cute and took no time at all. More St. Patricks ideas are to come.
